Our Mission

NYSARA’s mission is provide a strong voice for senior citizens, and in particular, retired individuals whose benefits are constantly under attack. As a growing coalition of community groups, labor unions and a wide range of senior advocacy groups, NYSARA strives to educate, advocate and activate for social and economic justice.

The Alliance believes that all older and retired persons have a responsibility to create and preserve a society that allows all citizens to enjoy a retirement with dignity, personal and family fulfillment and security.

EDUCATE- Our goal is to provide Alliance members with information, briefing papers and research on topics that relate to them. To give our members real information, and the voice to answer critics who attack our earned and established benefits.

ADVOCATE – NYSARA communicates and meets with legislators and policymakers on these issues. We regularly do media pieces on senior issues and all matters of public policy. We work to promote a commitment to the concept of lifelong participation in unions and community organizations.

ACTIVATE – NYSARA chapters are organized throughout the state, and some are in the process of being formed. These local chapters meet and hold programs that mobilize members for causes and services deemed important on the local, state and national levels.
